Periyali

Having an inkling for Greek while in New York, we chose to dine at Periyali, a small restaurant located about 5 blocks from Union Square.  We arrived and we seated immediately.

The menu is small with maybe 15 appetizer options and 15 entree options as well.  We ordered the octopus appetizer which from what I hear is one of the more popular dishes and it did not disappoint.  I was feeling hungry so opted for the lamb shank with tomato orzo stew.

Lamb Shank with Tomato Orzo Stew

I have to admit I was a bit weary of the tomato stew part, but it delivered in flavor. Succulent lamb shank a midst a bed of rich tomato orzo stew.  A solid dish, satisfyingly good, but not a dish I would have to go back and get.
