L'Ecole at the French Culinary Institute

Recommended by a friend, we stopped by since we were shopping in Soho anyways.  The menu is either a la carte or prix fixed 3-course meal.  We chose to just get the meal since it was a pretty good deal at around $30.

I ordered the pate with truffle and foie gras.  Unfortunately I was starving and devoured the entire thing before getting a chance to snap a pic.  I can tell you that it was the best dish out of the three.  Perfect size and texture.  It was a pretty textbook dish but it was executed to perfection.

For the main I got the steak frites, again.  It came with a bearnaise sauce and salty ass fries.  The steak was good, nothing to come back and get.  The fries sucked balls, greasy and soggy.  The bearnaise however was fantastic.

Lastly was the dessert, which was a spongey cake with lemon curd.  The cake was just bleh and the filling was tasteless, just filled with rich cream.  Maybe flavor the filling with the blueberries instead of just adorning the plate with them?  Just a thought.  My companion did however get some dessert with marscapone cheese ice cream which was really awesome.  I also recommend getting the pork dish that comes with a
fantastic truffled mac and cheese.

I think I ordered the wrong things, minus the pate.  Oh and the service is obviously not taught at this place because it sucked.  A good deal, but the food was neither exciting or inventive.
